The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) inaugurated on October 22 the upgraded Camiguin Airport, which can now handle three times its passenger capacity.
Operations will start on October 25.
The project includes expansion of the passenger terminal building, which can now serve at least 200 passengers from its previous passenger holding capacity of 66; and construction of the airport’s administration building, fire station building and the completed runway slope.
As the sole gateway into Camiguin province, the upgraded airport is envisioned to provide enhanced connectivity and mobility, and ensure growth opportunities in employment, trade, and investments in Northern Mindanao.
During the inauguration, CAAP director-general Jim Sydiongco said domestic carriers Cebu Pacific and Philippines will mount flights at the airport. He also revealed plans for a feasibility study next year on runway expansion to accommodate more flights.
