The Bureau of Customs collected a total of P3.465 trillion during the last six years of the Duterte administration, up 80.94% from the P1.9 trillion collected during the same previous six year-period.

This was one of the accomplishments reported by the Bureau at today’s (July 12) press conference led by Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero.

Much of the growth in collection may be attributed to higher taxes on fuel and the peso depreciation.

Other BOC accomplishments achieved covering the period July 2016 to June 2022 were:

  • Post-clearance audit revenue collection of P5,886,934,760.15 from the time the program restarted under the BOC in 2018
  • Fuel marking program which netted P432.3B in duties and taxes from the marking of 43.65 billion liters of fuel since the program began in 2019
  • Collection from public auction of forfeited goods–P3,464,939,963.56
  • The total number of overstaying containers disposed of was 10,913, of which 6,605 were auctioned, 4,007 condemned and 301 donated
  • Seized smuggled goods amounted to P95,635,765,320.33
  • Seized illegal drugs reached P17,049,405,011
  • Condemned forfeited goods hit P23,998,202,020.05
  • A total of 477 administrative cases were filed
  • Action against erring BOC employees: 1,474
  • Revoked customs accreditation: 2,055 for importers and 597 for customs brokers
  • As of 2021, the Philippines ranked third in the United Nations Global Survey on Digital and Sustainable Trade Facilitation ranking. From a 65.59% trade facilitation score in 2015 the country posted a score of 86.02% in 2021.
  • There were 21 trade regulatory agencies onboarded to TradeNet from 9 in 2016

So far there has been no announcement from the Palace if Guerrero stays on as customs chief. He said he has only been told to await instructions but hopes that whoever takes his place will continue with the programs he started to further improve on BOC accomplishments.
