The Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Cebu has inaugurated its revamped designated examination area (DEA).

“This newly renovated DEA is a testament to our unwavering commitment to improving our operational capabilities and providing better service to our stakeholders,” BOC-Cebu district collector Romeo Allan Rosales said in a statement.

BOC-Cebu said the DEA, which was inaugurated on July 17, “celebrated the culmination of a project designed to elevate the Port’s infrastructure to meet international standards.”

The facility is seen to improve the collection district’s overall operational efficiency and service delivery, translating to a swifter and more streamlined experience for the trade community and contributing to a more robust and competitive business landscape.

Aside from the DEA, BOC Cebu is also constructing a new office building. BOC Cebu and the Cebu Port Authority (CPA) in 2020 signed the contract of usufruct for the use of the lot inside Cebu International Port Complex where the envisioned building dubbed New Aduana de Cebu will rise.

Under the agreement, CPA grants BOC the free use of a 2,274.8 square meters lot in front of the existing CPA building currently being utilized as a temporary office of the BOC for a period of 25 years.

Groundbreaking for the project was held in 2021.
