President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) assistant secretary Jesus Fajardo as deputy commissioner of the Bureau of Customs (BOC).

Fajardo’s appointment paper was signed on May 21 and released on May 24. He will replace Natalio Ecarma III as head of the Revenue Collection and Monitoring Group (RCMG). Ecarma, a retired major general and Philippine Military Academy graduate, held the position from October 2016. BOC has yet to release information on whether Ecarma has resigned or if he will be transferred to another office or government agency.

RCMG maintains an accounting of revenues collected; administers the legal requirements of BOC; provides information and analysis of collection statistics; and audits liquidated entries and bonds.

Fajardo held the position of deputy director general for Administration in PDEA, which Customs commissioner Isidro Lapeña headed prior to becoming BOC chief. When Lapeña was tapped to head BOC, Fajardo was officer-in-charge until Aaron Aquino was appointed as director general.
