Philippine carrier Gothong Southern Shipping Lines (GS) was recently commissioned to ship heavy equipment from Cebu, 365 miles south of Manila, to Tabaco, Albay, 341 miles southeast of Manila.

DESCO Project Management chartered one of GS’s vessels to transport Chevron’s oil drilling machinery, including platforms and other related heavy equipment and trucks, from an abandoned site in Aloguinsan, Cebu to a drilling site in Tabaco, Albay.

The service sailed off at the Port of Cebu and proceeded to Aloguinsan to pick up breakbulk cargo eventually discharged at the Port of Tabaco.

Flor Labra, head of GS’ Technical Group, and Celso Mayol, head of Operations, accompanied the crew in the six-day voyage to ensure the safe and efficient transport of the heavy machinery.

With the arrival of newer and bigger Thor vessels, GS said its capability to transport bigger and heavier equipment faster across greater distances has been strengthened.

GS’s main business remains the shipment of containerized cargoes but from time to time the company has been commissioned to transport non-containerized cargoes either through vessel chartering or as supplement cargo on regular trade routes.
