Newly appointed Customs deputy commissioner Primo Aguas

A NEW deputy commissioner will be appointed to head the Bureau of Customs’ Management Information Systems and Technology Group (MISTG).

Deputy Commissioner Ma. Caridad Manarang had resigned from the bureau as early as July. Taking her place at the helm of the IT group that oversees the implementation of the BOC’s computerization program is Primo B. Aguas.

Manarang has been appointed Assistant Secretary at the Department of Finance.

There are no details yet as to when Aguas will assume his new post.

Aguas has been the ASEAN Insurance Sales Leader for IBM based in Kuala Lumpur since July 2010. He has over 30 years of technology, financial industry and management experience primarily in the banking and insurance sector.

He was previously the chief operating officer of the Shared Services Division of Malaysia’s largest local composite insurer, Hong Leong Insurance Bhd. He was also the general manager of the information technology hub of Prudential Services Asia and had worked at Andersen Consulting (Accenture) and AIG SEA Ltd.

He had also been a senior vice-president and information technology head at Rizal Commercial Banking Corp, a Manila bank.

Aguas has lived and worked in Hong Kong, New York, Chicago, Manila and Kuala Lumpur.

He graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Economics degree from the Ateneo de Manila University.
