The first set of members of the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Multi-Sectoral Governance Council (MSGC) took their oath recently, in keeping with the Department of Transportation directive to collaborate with private sector institutions to raise the country’s transportation system to global standards.

“The council is expected to continuously advocate for good governance in our maritime sector, while pursuing the implementation of the Maritime Industry Development Plan (MIDP),” said Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista in a statement.

“The MIDP and the MARINA Strategy Map should be able to guide the council on the direction to take,” he added.

The MSGC members comprise expert representatives from banking and finance, trade, tourism, urban planning, agriculture, manufacturing, marketing, IT (Information Technology), academe, media, and legislative support.

Bautista swore into office Gerardo A. Borromeo of Philippine Transmarine Carriers Inc. (PTC) for the maritime/logistics sector; Vice Admiral Eduardo Ma. R. Santos (ret.) of Maritime League for maritime security; Cezar P. Consing of Ayala Corporation for trade and bank/finance/commerce sector; Dr. Reynaldo Vea of Mapua University for UT systems/academe and research; Vice Admiral Alexander Pama (Ret.) of ARISE Global Network for environment sector; Cesar Abarica, representative of Shell Philippines for the petroleum sector; and Gepo de Mesa from Palafox Associates for urban management, coastal sector.
