The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) will be spending P676 million on the construction, improvement, and rehabilitation of six different ports in the country.

PPA, in a bid bulletin, is seeking participants to an open competitive bidding for the projects in the ports of Calapan in Oriental Mindoro; San Jose in Dinagat Islands; Tacloban; Masao and Nasipit in Agusan Del Norte; and Pier 18 in North Harbor, Manila.

A big chunk of the budget, P359.281 million, will go to improving and rehabilitating Phase 3 of Tacloban port. The project calls for removing and disposing of existing structures and pavement, constructing a containment area, installing an interlocking concrete pavement, and excavating an existing seabed, among others. Tacloban port was one of the many structures damaged by super typhoon Yolanda in November 2013.

The wharf extension at the port of Masao also received a big part of the budget with an allocation of P132.883 million. The port, which services both domestic and foreign cargo vessels, was delineated under the jurisdiction of PPA in December 2013.

PPA also intends to spend P55.203 million on constructing a passenger terminal in the port of Calapan, and P42.739 million on the Port of San Jose project. The latter project entails extending the reinforced concrete wharf, and constructing a perimeter fence and lighting system, among others.

The proposed dredging of berths, maneuvering areas, and entrance channel at the Port of Nasipit has a funding of P43.964 million.

Meanwhile, P42.345 million has been set aside for the proposed dredging of berths and the fairway channel at Pier 18 in Manila North Harbor.

The project entails dredging and excavating 75,000 cubic meters of soil to the designed depth of 5 meters. It also includes disposing of soil and garbage from the project site.

Bid documents are available at the PPA Head Office in Port Area from February 23 to March 18 for the Calapan and San Jose ports, March 19 for the Tacloban and Masao ports, and March 20 for Pier 18 and Nasipit port.

A pre-bid conference is to be held on March 5 for all port projects, while submission and opening of bids is scheduled for March 18 to 20.
