ID-100157658Twenty-seven laden containers stacked five boxes high fell within the Manila South Harbor on July 12, damaging one rubber-tired gantry.

South Harbor operator Asian Terminals Inc. in a statement said the incident happened around 1:00 pm in one block within South Harbor’s back-up container yard.

There were no major injuries and the port operator assured that despite the incident, “operations at Manila South Harbor are normal.”

It said, “ATI immediately engaged its surveyors and recovery crew to manage these containers. Concerned shipping lines and their consignees have also been duly notified.”

As of press time, ATI said it was investigating the cause of the accident.

The immediate vicinity of the incident was cordoned off to ensure public safety.

In an advisory to Bureau of Customs Commissioner John Phillip Sevilla on July 12, ATI advised its “partners in the BOC to temporarily refrain from using the immediate vicinity for assemblies or for parking purposes” because the incident happened in front of BOC headquarters’ steps/assembly area.
