Cris John Garcia has been named this year’s outstanding customs broker by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).
The OPY award is conferred to a professional who has “proficiently and efficiently executed to the optimum distinction, has conscientiously functioned with authenticity and legitimate professionalism, who has been widely endorsed by the awardee’s respective peers and fellow professionals,” PRC said in a statement.
Garcia was among the professionals in 39 fields of expertise who were recognized as Outstanding Professionals of the Year (OPY) during the PRC Awards on September 6.
Garcia was recognized for “his significant contributions to customs brokerage in the Philippines, particularly through policy reforms and industry collaboration.”
“With nearly two decades of leadership, he has served as national executive director of the Philippine Chamber of Customs Brokers, Inc. (PCCBI) and represented the Philippines at various international summits.,” according to PRC.
“His career in multinational companies focused on enhancing efficiencies in international trade and customs administration. Notably, he has received awards from the World Customs Organization and the PFPA (Federation of Professional Associations, Inc.), among others, emphasizing his dedication to the field.”
Garcia, in a statement sent to PortCalls, said, “I am truly honored to receive this recognition from the Professional Regulation Commission. This milestone is not just personal but also a tribute to the vital role that Customs Brokers in industry practice play in enabling trade and driving growth.”
“What makes this recognition even more meaningful is that it is purely based on merit, no solicitation, no ticket sales, proving that doing the right thing truly has its reward. I share this honor with my colleagues and mentors who continue to inspire me, and I remain committed to advancing the Customs Broker profession with integrity and innovation,” he added.
Garcia placed first in the customs broker licensure examination in 2005.
He is currently the strategic global logistics and vendor management lead of Monde Nissin Corp., president of the Super Green Lane Association of the Philippines, and member of the Customs Industry Consultative and Advisory Council. He also held various positions at PCCBI from 2009-2015.
