The Philippine Bureau of Customs (BOC) booked in August its biggest monthly deficit of the year, the fifth consecutive month it has missed its target.

The agency collected P21.3 billion in August, P7.3 billion less than the target of P28.67 billion.

BOC attributed the poor showing to slow disbursement of special allotment release orders for rice shipments and Armed Forces of the Philippines hardware.

From January to August, the BOC collected P171.14 billion against its goal of P195.38 billion, bringing the agency’s eight-month deficit to P24.24 billion.

This year, the BOC has been tasked by the national government to collect a total of P320 billion.
