French container transportation and shipping company CMA CGM is imposing a new round of rate increases and peak season surcharges from October 2011 as part of its revenue restoration program.

From October 1, general rate hikes of US$100 per 20-foot container and $150 per 40-foot container apply from North Europe, the United Kingdom, Scandinavia and the Baltic region to the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea. A rate increase of $100 per TEU is also enforced from West Africa to the Far East on the same date.

From October 15, rates from Asia to New Zealand are higher by $250 per TEU for both dry and reefer boxes.

CMA CGM likewise announced peak season surcharges effective October 22 for the following routes:

From West Mediterranean ports to the Caribbean, Central America, Venezuela, Colombia, and West Coast of South America: EUR100 per 20-foot unit for standard, reefer, open-top, and flat cargo; and EUR150 per 40-foot unit for similar types of cargo.

From North Europe and Mediterranean to Trinidad & Tobago, Suriname, and Guyana: EUR150 per TEU.

From UK, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Scandinavia, and Mediterranean to Leeward Islands: EUR100 per TEU.
