The Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) has suggested the signing of a joint memorandum circular (JMC) to identify the Philippines’ competent authority on marine products, a requirement for export of such commodities to Saudi Arabia.

The competent authority will provide information to the Saudi Food and Drug Authority on the Philippines’ food systems, ARTA said in a statement.

The proposed JMC will outline the mandates and functions of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and Food and Drug Administration in accordance with Saudi Arabia’s requirements, according to ARTA.

The agency conducted a hybrid meeting on August 7 to assist government agencies and stakeholders to comply with import requirements for Philippine marine products to Saudi Arabia. The meeting was attended by ARTA’s Better Regulations Office Export Development Council Networking Committee on Agricultural Policy, FDA’s Center for Food Regulation and Research, and BFAR.

“ARTA is here to assist the public and private sectors to address the delays in the export and import sectors,” ARTA Secretary Ernesto Perez said in line with the agency’s focus on a “whole-of-government approach” to provide resolution to regulatory bottlenecks.

The authority said it will monitor updates and agreements from BFAR and the FDA following President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.’s directive to ensure ease of doing business across all sectors.
