The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has surpassed its monthly revenue collection target for the fourth consecutive month in September 2020, taking in P50.226 billion for the month, or 33.17% higher than the P37.715-billion target.

Based on the preliminary report from BOC’s Financial Service, 14 out of the 17 collection districts surpassed their targets for the month—San Fernando, Manila International Container Port, Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Batangas, Cebu, Tacloban, Surigao, Cagayan de Oro, Zamboanga, Davao, Subic, Clark, Aparri, and Limay.

The customs bureau attributed the outcome to “the intensified collective effort of all ports, gradual improvement of importation volume and the government’s effort in ensuring unhampered movement of goods domestically and internationally considering the pandemic situation.”

From January to date, BOC has collected P397.514 billion, which is 78.54% of the P506.150 billion revised target collection for the whole year.

The 2020 collection target is 30.8% lower than the original target of P731 billion and by 6.6% from the revised target of P541.703 billion set last May. The lower revenue target is in view of the adverse impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Philippine economy.
