Clark International Airport Corp (CIAC) president Arrey Perez recently encouraged global aerospace companies to establish facilities in the Philippines to serve the Asia region and global market.
In meetings he attended with top aerospace and technology industry players at the 9th International Aerospace Innovation Forum in Canada last month, Perez pitched Clark’s marketability, describing the area as “a very viable and attractive hub for foreign investors in the aerospace industry.”
This is especially true for those looking for strategic partners able to address the growing necessity for aviation jobs to meet current demand and future expansion, he said.
Clark currently hosts such aerospace investors as maintenance, repair and overhaul giant SIA Engineering which maintains airframes; Metrojet Ltd of Hongkong which takes care of business jets; and Lufthansa Technik which will soon construct new hangars at the site.
Clark is also home to worldwide cargo leaders UPS, DHL, and FedEx.
Perez said the realization of Clark as the Philippines’ main aerospace hub will redefine the aviation landscape, providing opportunities and empower the next generation of aviation professionals.
The development of Clark airport will create thousands of aviation-related jobs, he added.
Among the country’s advantages Perez cited are its human resource pool of qualified English-speaking engineers and skilled workers, wide experience in the electronics and automotive industry, and tariff-free access to key markets with preferential trade agreements.
More than 1,700 participants from 19 countries attended the 9th International Aerospace Innovation Forum organized by Aero Montreal and the Quebec government last May 21 and 22. There were 145 speakers and more than 800 meetings at the two-day event.
Quebec is the world’s third largest center of aerospace manufacturing.
