The Embassy of Denmark in the Philippines plans to conduct an online seminar on shipbuilding, in collaboration with the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr), to strengthen the sector.
The announcement followed a working lunch recently hosted by Danish Ambassador Franz-Michael Skjold Mellbin, attended by ARTA Secretary Ernesto Perez and Better Regulations Office Director Marbida Marbida.
Discussions during the meeting centered on positioning the Philippines as a strategic location for shipbuilding amid the rapid advancements in the global shipping industry, enhancing its geopolitical influence, improving economic growth, and achieving diplomatic impact on the global stage.
In a statement, the Danish Embassy said: “With the fast-paced advancements in the global shipping industry, along with its increasingly critical role in international trade and security, we support the Philippines’ efforts in building its capacity as a strategic location for shipbuilding.
“We look forward to continue working with our Filipino and Danish partners in establishing a more robust, secure, and sustainable maritime industry.”
Expressing optimism about the proposed project, Perez highlighted the important role of private sector involvement in developing the industry. He reiterated President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to enhance bureaucratic efficiency.
The meeting also included participation from Transportation Maritime Sector Undersecretary Elmer Francisco Sarmiento, Maritime Industry Authority Deputy Administrator for Operations Nannette Villamor-Dinopol, and MARINA Shipyard Regulation Service Director Ramon Hernandez.
