Local air carriers delivered 7.6% more cargo in the first nine months of 2024 compared to the same period last year, according to preliminary data from the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB).

From January to September, Philippine air carriers shipped 180.227 million kilograms from 167.493 million kg year-on-year.

Of the nine local carriers in CAB’s list, five airlines saw an increase in air cargo volume while four reported declines.

Cebu Pacific continued to contribute the biggest share with 42% or 76.432 million kg, a 21.3% increase from 63 million kg in the first nine months of last year.

Coming in second place was PAL Express with 66.1 million kg, 11.8% higher than last year’s 59.133 million kg.

AirAsia Philippines ranked third with 14.885 million kg, a 21.9% decline from 19.064 million kg.

Philippine Airlines (PAL), which came fourth, saw a 29.2% reduction to 13.855 million kg from 19.576 million kg.

Ranking fifth was boutique airline AirSwift Transport, Inc., which handled 3.715 million kg, up 36% from last year’s 2.733 million kg.

Charter airline Island Aviation Corp. came in sixth, recording the biggest volume increase of 135% to 2.272 million kg from 966,582 kg.

In seventh place was leisure airline Seair International, which flew 1.683 million kg, slipping 0.9% from 1.697 million kg.

Cebgo landed on the eighth spot with 1.279 million kg, up 4.5% from 1.223 million kg last year.

Lastly, boutique charter airline Sunlight Express Airways posted the most decline of 92.3% to 7,033 kg from 91,887 kg. – Roumina Pablo
