Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) is expanding its Seahorse service by adding a direct call on Subic port, linking the Luzon gateway to the shipping giant’s other intra-Asia services and to its global ocean liner network.

The new offering will also connect MSC’s inland and barge services within the Asia region.

MSC said the service provides comprehensive port coverage within Asia, with direct connections to various markets such as Vietnam and Taiwan that will help facilitate the flow of more intra-Asia cargo to/from the Philippines.

The service also links shippers in the Philippines with major transshipment ports such as Singapore, Vung Tau in Vietnam and Tanjung Pelepas in Malaysia, providing accessibility to MSC’s network of main-haul services to markets in the United States and Europe.

The direct call includes an improved connection between Singapore and Subic, which will facilitate more speedy shipments of dry and reefer imports by MSC from Europe, US, Canada, South America and its other long-haul markets.

In a statement, Subic port operator Subic Bay International Terminal Corp. (SBITC) said industries including agriculture, automotive, electronics, construction and garments can take advantage of the service’s connection to major transshipment hubs and MSC’s global ocean liner network to ship their products worldwide.

SBITC recently facilitated the maiden call of the 2,475 twenty-foot equivalent unit capacity MSC Sotiria III, one of the vessels operating MSC’s expanded Seahorse service.

Aside from making regular calls on Subic, the updated service calls on Manila’s North Port, which was already part of the previous port rotation. The updated rotation covers Tanjung Pelepas – Singapore – Manila – Subic – Kaohsiung – Vung Tau – Tanjung Pelepas.

MSC is the largest container line in terms of capacity. With access to an integrated network of road, rail and sea transport resources worldwide, the Swiss-Italian maritime giant sails on more than 230 trade routes and calls on more than 500 ports.
