The Port of Tanjung Pelepas handled over 12.25 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in 2024, surpassing its previous record of 11.2 million TEUs in 2021.
The year 2024 saw several record-breaking achievements for PTP:
• On September 22, 2024, the port recorded 14,036 quayside moves during a 12-hour shift.
• July 2024 marked PTP’s highest monthly throughput with 1,115,181 TEUs, maintaining over one million TEUs per month since May.
PTP’s technological advancement was also a highlight, with the successful implementation of Kaleris’ Navis N4 4.0 terminal operating system in December. This upgrade is expected to support the port’s continued growth and efficient operation.
The Malaysian container terminal, a joint venture between Malaysia’s MMC Group and Netherlands-based APM Terminals, is ranked as the fifth most efficient container port globally by the Container Port Performance Index 2023. It is also ranked fifteenth in volume throughput by Lloyd’s List.
PTP chairman Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh lauded the achievement, saying, “2024 has been nothing short of extraordinary. It is gratifying to witness how PTP has risen to the occasion, embracing challenges with courage and transforming them into opportunities for growth and innovation.
“By seamlessly handling such substantial container volumes, we have consistently delivered exceptional services to our valued customers and partners, contributing to Malaysia’s economic growth and reaffirming PTP’s position as one of the world’s most efficient and high-volume container terminals.”
PTP CEO Mark Hardiman emphasized the port’s stable productivity and customer reliability amid surging volumes.
“It has always been our commitment to help our customers achieve their schedule reliability, especially during a time of global supply chain disruptions, and we are proud to deliver this with no congestion,” said Hardiman.
Looking ahead, Hardiman said PTP aims to sustain its momentum with extensive preparations for 2025, focusing on infrastructure upgrades, environmental, social, and governance goals, enhanced safety policies, and digitalization strategies.”
