Transport facilities in Luzon reported no major damages and are operating normally following the 7.0-magnitude earthquake that jolted northern Luzon on July 27.

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) said several ports under its jurisdiction, including those near the earthquake epicenter in Abra, reported normal operations with no major structural damages.

The following PPA port management offices (PMO) are on business as usual mode as of July 27:

  • PMO Northern Luzon – No major damage/s were seen/observed in all port and port facilities under PMO Northern Luzon. Only hairline cracks were seen at the port operations building of the Port of Currimao, Ilocos Norte and Passenger Terminal Building in Claveria, Cagayan.
  • PMO National Capital Region-South Harbor – No major structural damage to the port facilities. Only minor cracks were observed on the wall plastering of the PMO office. Engineering Department to further conduct inspection.
  • PMO Mindoro –No damages to the facilities of Calapan port and other ports under the PMO were observed and reported.
  • PMO Bataan/Aurora – No reported significant structural damage to all port facilities under the jurisdiction of the PMO. However, still awaiting report from Aurora port as of 2pm, July 27.
  • PMO Bicol – No reported damage to any port facilities under the PMO.
  • PMO Palawan – No reported damage to port facilities.
  • PMO Masbate – No reported damage to port facilities.

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said two runways at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) were declared safe for flight operations after no damage was seen on the pavements. Inspection of the taxiway and four NAIA terminals likewise yielded goods results with no damage noted, MIAA said.

MIAA said its terminals and other buildings are equipped with accelerographs set at different thresholds based on the age and structural integrity of the edifice. The accelerographs recorded an Intensity IV earthquake at 8:45 am on July 27, which did not require an evacuation.

At the International Cargo Terminal (ICT) where the device had a lower threshold, a red alarm was triggered prompting mandatory evacuation. ICT occupants later returned to their offices after the building was declared safe.

There was minimal disruption to cargo processing as a result of the evacuation.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said that except for Loakan Airport, which serves Baguio, there were no reported damages in all airport facilities in CAAP Areas 1, 2 and 3 in Luzon, with terminal and boarding operations resuming shortly after the earthquake.

Loakan Airport suffered minor cracks in some of its facilities.

Operations of Light Rail Transit Line 1, Line 2, Metro Rail Transit-3, and Philippine National Railways were temporarily halted for a certain period on July 27 to allow for inspection of the tracks and facilities. All four rail lines resumed operations before 12 noon of July 27.
