Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has started accepting cargo bookings for its standalone East/West network set to launch in February 2025.

The network draws on MSC’s long-standing and proven expertise in direct shipment services, offering “a broader selection of direct port connections, extensive ocean freight coverage, and unrivalled connectivity,” the world’s largest container shipping company said in a statement.

In addition, the carrier’s Asia-connected network (including intra-Asia) will deliver trade opportunities by linking the continent with a vast array of loops, unique direct destination ports, new corridors, competitive transit times, and frequent direct port calls.

Key offerings of standalone East/West network

  • Extensive global coverage with a total of 24 Asia outbound loops across 5 major trades. These major trades include Asia-North Europe, Asia-Mediterranean, Asia-North America West Coast, Asia-North America East Coast, and Asia-India and Middle East.
  • Flexibility of weekly services via Suez with more than 1,900 direct port pairs or the Cape of Good Hope with more than 1,800 direct port pairs.

Five top benefits

  1. The highest number of direct port calls providing competitive transit times.

With the highest number of direct port calls in Asia, Europe, and the US, MSC offers multiple sailing options from ports of loading to ports of discharge, ensuring competitive transit times.

On top of reducing administrative burdens and simplifying declarations for the European Union’s Import Control System 2 and Automated Manifest System/Entry Summary Declaration, the extensive direct coverage also eliminates risks associated with transshipments, providing predictability and consistency throughout the shipping journey.

  1. Flexibility and faster response to evolving market demands

With full operational control of its standalone network, MSC gains the flexibility, agility, and speed of decision-making required to swiftly adapt to market changes. Greater control over space availability and its fleet also means better meeting client needs with enhanced precision and efficiency, supporting their business more efficiently.

  1. Business as usual for customers

Renowned for its consistent and high-quality trade services, MSC customers can be assured of this same level of excellence without disruption. By being standalone, the world’s largest container carrier has the full capacity to maintain shipping as usual for its customers, offering them the stability they need to expand their business.

  1. Largest availability of space and equipment

With the world’s largest fleet of 900 vessels and an extensive shipbuilding program, MSC transports a remarkable 27 million TEUs annually.

Partnering with MSC also means connecting to a global network of experts across 675 offices, planning 300 routes to 520 ports in over 155 countries. Whether it’s dry, reefer or liquid cargo, customers can enjoy extensive capacity and resources.

  1. Global reach, local support

MSC combines its extensive global reach with dedicated local support to meet unique transportation needs. With local teams who are experts in market-specific requirements, businesses can be confident that their cargo will reach its destination safely and efficiently. They will also benefit from personalized expertise and assistance in their own language, guiding them through every step of the journey.

Connecting the Philippines to the world

The East/West network features four port calls connecting all major international ports in the Philippines to the world. MSC is also the only carrier providing access to unique destination ports such as Portland, Oregon and Seattle from the Philippines.

Additionally, customers can leverage MSC’s other trade services that offer global coverage, including regions such as Oceania, Africa, and Latin America. They can also make use of MSC’s full portfolio of supply chain solutions, ranging from trucking and warehousing to digital business solutions.

MSC’s presence in the Philippines spans from 2018 and has grown rapidly to five offices in Manila, Davao, General Santos, Cagayan de Oro, and Cebu.

In March 2023, MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company Philippines Inc. was established as direct agency for MSC to facilitate growth and better serve its customers.
