President Benigno Aquino III has expanded the jurisdiction of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) with three new port zones in Palawan.

Aquino on January 22 signed Executive Orders No. 194, 195, and 196, series of 2016, declaring and delineating the port zones of Roxas, Liminangcong, and Narra in Palawan under the administrative jurisdiction of PPA.

The President said there is a need to define the port zones “for the planning, development, financing and operation of said Port, with the objective of promoting development through the dispersal of industries and commercial activities throughout the different regions.”

He added that the delineation and declaration of port zones under PPA “aims to redirect and reorganize port administration for the full development of port districts.”

With the delineation, PPA is tasked, consistent with the regional industrial plans of the government, to implement a program for the proper zoning, planning, development, and utilization of the ports.
