The third Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) for the Metro Manila Subway Project Camp Aguinaldo Station has started drilling operations, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

The TBM, part of the project’s Contract Package 103, is expected to reach Anonas Station within six months, advancing at a rate of nine meters of tunnel excavation per day, Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said.

A parallel TBM is also scheduled to be launched in the next two months, while a fourth TBM for Camp Aguinaldo is currently being assembled. Across the project, a total of eight TBMs are now in operation.

In a statement, DOTr said the launch aligns with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to fast-track the completion of the MMSP, which aims to benefit commuters.

“Additional tunnel boring machines mean lesser time to finish the project. The subway works will continue, and the DOTr will not stop its efforts to deliver these projects,” said Lopez during the launch ceremony on October 7.

He added, “The President has directed us to accelerate infrastructure works because mass transit is the key to solving the commuting public’s transportation woes.”

The 33-kilometer, 17-station subway will connect Valenzuela City to Parañaque City, ending at Bicutan Station in Taguig and extending to NAIA Terminal 3 in Pasay City via a spur line. The MMSP will also be interoperable with the North–South Commuter Railway (NSCR) through the FTI and Bicutan Stations, allowing seamless travel from Valenzuela to Calamba without transfers.

Once completed, the subway will cut travel time between Valenzuela and Pasay from 1 hour and 38 minutes to just 45 minutes, serving an estimated 519,000 passengers daily by 2032.
