NYK LineJapanese box liner Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) announced the launch next month of a six-carrier joint service linking the Far East to South America.

The new weekly service consists of two loops—NEX1 (New East Coast South America Express 1) and NEX2 (New East Coast South America Express 2)—that will connect Asia and the East Coast of South America.

Aside from NYK, the other participants in the joint operation are CMA CGM, Hamburg Sud, Hapag-Lloyd, China Shipping Container Lines, and United Arab Shipping Company.

The NEX1 and NEX2 will harness 23 container ships in all, each vessel between 8,000 and 10,000 TEUs in capacity, that will be calling several ports in the area.

The NEX1 will be using 11 vessels of 8,000 to 9,000 TEUs on a weekly 77-day round trip.

The route officially opens on July 14 with a maiden sailing westbound from Shanghai. The port rotation is Shanghai, Ningbo, Yantian, Hong Kong, Singapore, Port Klang, Sepetiba, Santos, Itapoa, Navegantes, Paranagua, Santos, Port Klang, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Shanghai.

The NEX2 will deploy a dozen 8,000- to 10,000-TEU ships on a weekly 84-day round journey. Date of service is July 11, sailing westbound from Busan.

It will make regular calls at Busan, Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Chiwan, Singapore, Port Klang, Santos, Paranagua, Montevideo, Buenos Aires, Rio Grande, Itapoa, Santos, Port Klang, Singapore, and Busan.
