Aboitiz Construction, Inc. has completed the Lagonglong Port project in Misamis Oriental for Amadi MGT Terminals Inc.
The private commercial port project includes the construction of dock facilities, storage areas for perishable goods, and the installation of loading and unloading equipment, Aboitiz Construction said in a statement.
With a handling capacity of up to 3.3 million metric tons of bulk cargo annually, Aboitiz Construction said the new port is poised to streamline logistics for transporting agricultural products and raw materials, strengthen regional trade capacity, and create employment opportunities for the local community.
The berth measures 23 meters in width and 250 meters in length, with a seabed elevation of -21 meters from mean lower low water (MLLW), allowing it to accommodate larger vessels and support efficient cargo-handling operations.
Lagonglong port will cost P4 billion to complete, of which P1.4 billion will be spent for the first phase.
During the port project’s groundbreaking in January 2024, Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel, Jr. said the port, once finished, “will reduce feed costs by at least 2.5%, or as much as 5%,” and will reduce cost of fertilizers “also by 5%, maybe, or as much as 10%, depending on the price.”
Tiu Laurel also requested Amadi MGT Terminals to provide the Department of Agriculture space for cold storage, ice stands and silos for other agricultural products.
