Aboitiz InfraCapital, Inc. (AIC) reported that its airport portfolio handled a combined 16.17 million passenger arrivals in 2025, reflecting sustained demand for air travel across the Visayas and Northern Mindanao.

The total comprised 11.6 million passengers at Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA), up nearly 3% from 11.3 million in 2024.

There were 2.35 million passengers at Laguindingan International Airport (LIA), and 2.22 million at Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA).

Covering only the period following their respective handovers to AIC in April and June 2025, LIA recorded 1.6 million passengers, while BPIA handled 1.07 million passengers.

MCIA remains the country’s busiest airport outside Metro Manila, while LIA in Misamis Oriental and BPIA in Bohol rank as the sixth- and ninth-busiest, respectively.

“2025 has been a landmark year for our airports as we continued to expand connectivity for both domestic and international travelers. Passengers arriving at MCIA, LIA, and BPIA now have easier access to key destinations across Cebu, Bohol, and Northern Mindanao, making travel within the Philippines more seamless than ever,” AIC vice president and head of airports Rafael Aboitiz said in a statement.

AIC said the record passenger volume highlights the growing role of its airport platform in supporting tourism, business travel, and regional economic growth, despite major disruptions that affected the Visayas-Mindanao region in 2025, including the 6.9-magnitude earthquake in Bogo City, Cebu, the 7.4-magnitude earthquake in Davao Oriental, and Typhoons Tino and Uwan in Western Visayas.

MCIA, which was named Airport of the Year-Asia at the TDM Travel Trade Excellence Awards 2025, launched new exclusive nonstop routes in 2025, including services to Siquijor via Sunlight Air and San Vicente, Palawan via Cebu Pacific.

The airport also rolled out three key connectivity initiatives during the year: CEB Connects, CEB+, and CEB Balik.

CEB Connects is MCIA’s air-to-air transfer service designed to significantly reduce connection times between international and domestic flights. CEB+ provides a short air-to-sea transfer from MCIA to Mactan Wharf, serving nearby island destinations, while CEB Balik features an overseas Filipino workers facilitation kiosk aimed at positioning MCIA as the primary OFW gateway for the Visayas and Mindanao.

These initiatives, AIC said, have improved access to and from Cebu and strengthened inter-island connectivity. From MCIA, travelers from the Visayas can reach Bohol and surrounding provinces via fast ferry through CEB+, or fly onward to Northern Mindanao through LIA.

For Mindanao-based travelers bound for overseas destinations, MCIA, with flights from LIA, offers a wider range of options, with 20 airlines operating 13 international routes.

AIC, the infrastructure arm of the Aboitiz Group, marked its 10th year in 2025. Its other ventures are in water, transport and mobility, and digital infrastructures.
