Aboitiz InfraCapital, Inc. (AIC) has completed a series of critical infrastructure improvements at the Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA) and Laguindingan International Airport (LIA), boosting operational reliability at two of the country’s busiest regional gateways.

The upgrades, carried out in coordination with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), are among the first major interventions since AIC Airports took over operations of both airports in mid-2025, the company said in a press release

These include elevator repairs to support accessibility for passengers with mobility needs, assessments of uninterruptible power supply systems to ensure stable operations during outages, and servicing of baggage carousels to reduce waiting times at arrivals.

Preventive maintenance work on boarding bridges and baggage weighing scales was also completed at BPIA.

AIC said the completed works mark early results of the DOTr and CAAP’s public-private partnership strategy to accelerate the modernization of provincial airports, with direct benefits to travelers, airport personnel, and surrounding communities.

The company’s growing airport portfolio, which also includes the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA), the Philippines’ second busiest airport after the main gateway in the capital Manila, is expected to collectively handle around 16 million passengers by year-end, accounting for more than 20% of national passenger traffic.

LIA and BPIA are the sixth and ninth busiest airports, respectively.

AIC said MCIA serves as the “Connectivity Hub,” BPIA as the “Leisure Hub” as Bohol mainland is a declared UNESCO Global Geopark, and LIA as the “Service Hub” supporting business and logistics access to Mindanao.

AIC has been undertaking broader modernization plans at BPIA and LIA since the start of the year under multi-year concession agreements awarded in 2024. The next phase includes terminal restructuring, expansion, and capacity upgrades to accommodate increasing passenger volumes, following the model set by MCIA, widely regarded as the country’s most-awarded airport.

“These improvements are important infrastructure upkeep that reflect our shared commitment with the government to make every AIC Airports experience safer, more efficient, and more enjoyable for our travelers,” said AIC president and chief executive officer Cosette Canilao.

“We are ensuring that BPIA and LIA remain reliable gateways that connect communities, boost local economies, and strengthen our country’s aviation network,” she said.

AIC, now in its 10th year, develops water, transport and mobility, and digital infrastructure.
