Aboitiz InfraCapital, Inc. (AIC) officially took over the operations of Laguindingan International Airport on April 26.

“Today, April 26, 2025, marks the start of a new journey at Laguindingan International Airport as Aboitiz InfraCapital takes the helm!” the airport’s official Facebook page said in a post.

“As we work hand-in-hand with government agencies, airline partners, and stakeholders to enhance airport services and improve efficiency, we sincerely appreciate your patience and support. Together, we’re paving the way for a modern, efficient, and proudly Mindanawon travel experience,” it added.

The company is also exerting efforts to enhance customer service by rolling out an Aviation Customer Service Excellence Training for airport frontliners.

The specialized program, conducted by Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) operator Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport Corporation (ACAC), is part of AIC’s broader strategy to modernize Laguindingan International Airport and position it as a key gateway for Northern Mindanao. The initiative underscores its commitment to delivering a seamless and customer-focused travel experience while supporting the region’s economic growth.

“Our priority is to ensure that passengers experience warmth, efficiency, and care from the moment they enter the terminal,” said AIC president and chief executive officer Cosette Canilao. “We are focused on developing a culture of service excellence, where every airport employee—from security personnel to check-in agents—plays a vital role in creating a seamless travel experience.”

As part of its modernization blueprint, AIC eyes a two-phase expansion that will initially increase passenger capacity from 1.6 million to 3.9 million annually, with a potential second-phase expansion to 6.3 million, depending on traffic growth.

Planned upgrades include terminal renovations, installation of advanced equipment, and enhancements to both airside and landside facilities aimed at improving passenger experience, boosting operational efficiency, and elevating safety and security standards.

Opened in 2013, Laguindingan International Airport in Misamis Oriental features a 7,184-square-meter passenger terminal, 350-square-meter cargo terminal, and other key facilities, including an air traffic control building, aircraft rescue center, and critical utility systems.

AIC was won the Laguindingan airport contract in October 2024.

Beyond Laguindingan, AIC is preparing for its takeover of Bohol-Panglao International Airport, currently the country’s ninth-busiest gateway. The project will also involve terminal expansion and modernization efforts under a 30-year concession.
