Aboitiz InfraCapital, Inc. (AIC) officially took over operations of Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA) on June 16.
The formal turnover from the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) marks a major milestone in the company’s expanding airports platform, the company said in a statement.
AIC is the infrastructure arm of the Aboitiz Group. BPIA becomes the third airport under AIC airports portfolio following Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) and Laguindingan International Airport (LIA) in Misamis Oriental.
“We are excited to officially begin operations at Bohol-Panglao International Airport and bring our brand of operational excellence, innovation, and passenger-focused service to this important gateway. This project is about more than infrastructure — it’s about enabling tourism, empowering local economies, and creating more inclusive growth across the Visayas,” AIC president and CEO Cosette Canilao said.
BPIA, the Philippines’ ninth-busiest gateway and a vital tourism hub, is set for a series of planned upgrades under a ₱4.53 billion public-private partnership.
Over the next few years, AIC will expand the passenger terminal building, modernize landside and airside facilities, and install new airport systems and equipment.
Initial improvements will boost BPIA’s capacity from two million to 2.5 million passengers per annum within the first two years of operations, with future developments pushing capacity to 3.9 million by 2030.
AIC vice president and Head of the Airports Business Rafael Aboitiz said: “This official handover marks the beginning of a new chapter for Bohol-Panglao International Airport. We are committed to transforming BPIA into a globally competitive gateway that reflects the beauty and hospitality of Bohol, while helping unlock its full tourism and economic potential.”
AIC won the 30-year contract to construct and operate the P4.526 billion BPIA late 2024.
The addition of BPIA further strengthens AIC’s presence in the Visayas, where the Aboitiz Group traces its roots, the company said.
MCIA, LIA, and BPIA are part of AIC’s broader strategy to develop and manage infrastructure assets that deliver top-notch Filipino hospitality, better and smoother travel, and seamless connectivity across the Philippines.
As a unit of the Aboitiz Group techglomerate, AIC is leveraging its expertise in infrastructure and technology to drive sustainable growth in the country’s aviation sector, said the company.
Witnessing the landmark event were CAAP deputy director-general Danjun Lucas, CAAP director-general Lieutenant-General (Ret.) Raul Del Rosario, MCIA CEO Athanasios Titonis, and Aboitiz InfraCapital Airports Service Company head of Operations and Security Ronald Mangahas.
