The Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) has released terminal assignments days before the newly inaugurated Terminal 2 opens on July 1.

In an advisory, MCIA said that after 2 a.m. of July 1 all domestic flights will be at Terminal 1 while all international flights are assigned to Terminal 2.

Airlines assigned to Terminal 1 include AirJuan, AirSwift, Cebgo, Cebu Pacific, PAL Express, Philippine Airlines, and Philippines AirAsia.

Assigned to the new terminal are Air Busan, Asiana Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Cebu Pacific, China Eastern, Emirates, Eva Air, Jeju Air, Jin Air, Korean Air, Lucky Air, Okay Airways, Pan Pacific Airlines, PAL, Philippines AirAsia, Royal Air, Scoot, Sichaun Airlines, SilkAir, T’way Air, Vanilla Air, and Xiamen Air.

MCIA’s Terminal 2, envisioned as the world’s first resort airport, was inaugurated last June 7.

Concessionaire GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corp. started construction of the new terminal building in June 2015 to reduce airport congestion and increase the airport’s annual passenger capacity from 4.5 million passengers per year to 12.2 million.

The new terminal was designed in collaboration with world-class Filipino artists as well as international design and architectural firms, with the aim to provide a welcoming ambiance that is distinctly Filipino.

With a floor area of 65,000 square meters, more than double the 27,000-square-meter minimum floor area in the concession agreement, the new terminal is designed to increase the airport’s total handling capacity.

MCIA is the second largest airport and one of the busiest air hubs in the Philippines. As the premiere gateway to the Visayas and southern Philippines, it is currently handling an estimated 5.9 million passengers per year, which is beyond its capacity of 4.5 million passengers yearly.
