The P568.7-million Banago Port Improvement Project in Bacolod is on track for completion by the end of June 2025, according to the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA).
Among the largest port infrastructure investments on Negros island, the project involves major enhancements such as a wider road network, an expanded roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) marshalling yard that can accommodate up to 50 trucks, and a three-story passenger and operations building.
The new terminal will have the capacity to serve 500 passengers on the ground floor, house the Port Management Office of Negros Occidental/Bacolod/Banago Bredco on the second floor, and provide conference and guest facilities for port personnel on the third.
PPA general manager Jay Daniel Santiago, who inspected the site on April 25, emphasized that port modernization extends beyond infrastructure. “Through modern ports, PPA brings many opportunities to different regions in the Philippines toward collective development in accordance with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.,” he said.
Currently, RoRo vessels operated by three shipping companies service the route between Banago and Dumangas Port in Iloilo, making it a vital gateway for inter-island connectivity.
The port upgrade is being carried out by a Bacolod-based joint venture of Mamsar Construction and Industrial Corp. and Silver Dragon Construction and Lumber and Glass Supply Inc., under a contract signed in August 2023.
