Forty-two containers of mature coconuts, a banned export product were seized by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) at Cebu port on December 11.

Bound for China and worth an estimated P232 million, the shipment was declared to contain paper waste but derogatory information received by the Enforcement and Security Service led to a spot check that revealed the mature coconuts, BOC said in a statement.

BOC-Cebu district collector Charlito Martin Mendoza issued warrants of seizure and detention against the export shipments based on the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, Executive Order No. 1016 series of 1985, and Resolution of the Inter-Agency Committee on Executive Order No. 1016 dated June 19, 1992 listing mature coconuts among the prohibited products for exportation.

Upon forfeiture, the mature coconuts will be turned over to the Philippine Coconut Authority.
