Batangas port has welcomed its first liquified natural gas (LNG)-powered pure car & truck carrier (PCTC) vessel, Trans Harmony Green.
The LNG dual-fuel PCTC of Toyofuji Shipping Co. Ltd. made its maiden call to the CALABARZON gateway on May 28, Batangas port operator Asian Terminals Inc. (ATI) said in a statement.
Trans Harmony Green is 195 meters long, 30.6 meters wide and has a gross tonnage of 49,500.
The vessel is deployed on the Japan-Southeast Asia-Philippines service corridor mainly carrying Toyota vehicles with a transport capacity of 3,000 passenger cars per sailing.
The ship’s main engine and main generator engine are high-performance dual-fuel engines each accommodating LNG or diesel fuel. Together, these engines achieve over a 25% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions compared to fuel oil-powered ships of the same hull design and also cut SOₓ (sulfur oxides) emissions to near zero, significantly reducing the vessel’s environmental footprint.
ATI said the recent call advances Batangas port’s role in the decarbonization initiatives of the international marine transport sector.
As part of its carbon reduction efforts in the sector, ATI said it made significant strides in greening its operations in recent years, converting yard lighting fixtures to LED, installing solar panels across its facilities, upgrading to automated gate systems, introducing innovative cargo connectivity solutions, and investing in soon-to-be-delivered electric-powered landside cargo handling equipment for faster, safer, and smarter trade facilitation.
Batangas Port completely runs on renewable energy sourced from green energy producers, making it a pioneer in the industry.
