A new player in the e-commerce industry, Beebeelee, has tapped Quick’s (also known as QRS) deferred freight system and 4PL services for delivery in the Philippines of items purchased online.

Pioneered by Quick, deferred freight is a delivery service that utilizes buses and the roll-on roll-off (RORO) system to cater to customers looking for options cheaper than airfreight but faster than sea freight.

Quick president and general manager Emer Ilagan noted the fast growth of e-commerce in the Philippines and the challenges attendant to it, including logistics.

Logistics can make or break an e-commerce company, Ilagan said. And in an archipelago like the Philippines, delivery of goods purchased online is even more challenging.

“We are glad that Beebeelee has given us its trust and named us its 4PL delivery partner,” Ilagan said.

4PLs is an integrator, having responsibility for the entire supply chain.

The e-commerce market in the Philippines is expected to grow to US$2,619 million in 2022, representing an annual growth rate of 15.1% from 2018, according to a report by statistical portal Statista. Data on user penetration also shows that in 2017, 30.3 million people in the Philippines have made online purchases. This number is expected to hit 46.1 million by 2020.

Still, the Philippines is considered to have the lowest e-commerce share among six of the largest markets in Southeast Asia. Market research firm eMarketer noted that digital purchases comprise only 0.9 percent of the total retail sales in the Philippines.

“Deferred freight tapped into the efficiency of the RORO system. This is an innovation brought about by our extensive knowledge of our country’s logistics landscape,” explained Ilagan.

Based on Quick’s experience, cargo from Manila can be delivered to Mindanao in three days, a faster alternative to seafreight and cheaper than airfreight.

Quick is a Filipino-owned supply chain organization offering integrated, customized, and end-to-end portfolio of logistics and supply chain management solutions, including courier and distribution, warehousing, freight forwarding, records management, and archiving.
