The Bureau of Customs (BOC) collected P645.765 billion in 2021, surpassing its P616.749 billion annual target by 4.7%.

The 2021 collection was also higher than the pre-pandemic take of P630.31 billion in 2019, BOC said in a statement.

For December alone, BOC exceeded its monthly revenue target of P51.705 billion by 20.8% with revenues of P62.478 billion.

Of the 17 collection districts, 13 hit their target in 2021: the ports of San Fernando, Manila, Batangas, Legazpi, Iloilo, Surigao, Zamboanga, Davao, Subic, Clark, and Limay as well as Manila International Container Port and Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

In a statement, BOC attributed the positive collection performance to “improved valuation, intensified enforcement operations against illegal importations, improved compliance by traders to customs laws, the gradual improvement of importation volume, and the government’s effort in ensuring unhampered movement of goods domestically and internationally considering the pandemic situation.”

The 2021 revenue target is 22% higher than the 2020 revised target of P506.150 billion and 14% more than the P539.687 billion actual collection recorded in 2020.
