The Bureau of Customs-Port of Cagayan de Oro (BOC-CDO) seized luxury cars valued at P30 million at the Mindanao Container Terminal in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental on December 15.

The shipment arrived from Korea on December 12 and was consigned to M. Aguila Car Trading. It was initially declared to contain 1,045 pieces of truck replacement parts but a joint inspection by BOC-CDO and the Customs’ Intelligence Group revealed two Porsche cars.

Prior to the discovery, the BOC-IG requested the Port of Cagayan de Oro to issue a pre-lodgment control order against the subject shipment after receiving derogatory information.

This was followed by a joint spot-check examination request from Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service CDO and Surigao Field Station chief Oliver Valiente and X-ray Inspection Project CDO chief Jenkinn Gutierrez.

Upon receiving the alert, acting district collector Alexandra Y. Lumontad ordered a full container examination, leading to the discovery of the smuggled Porches.

A warrant of seizure and detention will be issued for violating Section 1400 in relation to Section 1113 of Republic Act No. 10863, also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

“Our ports are steadfast in protecting our borders to ensure that goods are thoroughly inspected, preventing illicit cargo entry,” BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio said in a statement.

The Port of Cagayan de Oro said it “aligns its mission with the five-point priority program” of the BOC to prevent all forms of smuggling.
