The Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Cebu is optimistic of breaching its P57-billion revenue collection target this year, according to one of its officials.

The target is higher than the P37.843-billion goal in 2022, BOC-Cebu officer-in-charge deputy collector for assessment Conrado Abarintos told PortCalls at the sidelines of the recent PortCalls Visayas Shipping Conference 2023 in Cebu City.

It is also 13.3% more than actual collections of P42.876 billion last year.

BOC-Cebu includes the subports of Dumaguete and Mactan.

“Our district collector and the rest of the personnel in the port are very positive on achieving the assigned target for our port,” Abarintos said.

The port’s top commodities oil and coal are expected to continue being the major source of collections.

BOC-Cebu’s top importers in 2022 were Filoil Logistics Corp., Seaoil Philippines Inc., and National Grid Corporation of the Philippines.

Abarintos said they are also anticipating higher volumes of construction materials with construction activities in Cebu picking up from March.

For 2023, BOC has been tasked to collect P901.3 billion, up from the P721-billion target last year and the P862.929 billion actual collection, the highest annual collection to date. – Roumina Pablo
