The Bureau of Customs (BOC) at the Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEC) in Pasay City is undertaking several programs to hasten processing of parcel importations as volumes continue to increase due to the holidays.
BOC in a statement said this follows a coordination meeting with the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) that shed light on issues experienced by stakeholders when receiving or claiming parcels at CMEC.
CMEC is a PHLPost entry facility for parcels that come by air, and is considered a BOC sub-port where customs officers are posted.
BOC and PHLPost will open this month the CMEC Customer Care Center to cater to inquiries and concerns of transacting clients. The center will be equipped with information desks, joint directory, and information monitors, among others.
Meantime, an existing customer care unit remains operational while the new customer care center awaits inauguration.
Moreover, a study is ongoing on implementing a system for the online payment of taxes by clients of CMEC with parcel importations, and on facilitating trade and collection of revenue.
CMEC is also placing monitors and process flow charts in conspicuous areas in the facility to maximize its information dissemination capability.
BOC said it has also improved its examination and assessment areas, lobby for claimants, and offices at CMEC to provide backbone for these initiatives.
