• The Bureau of Customs collected P29.24 million in 2021 from the seizure of shipments containing misdeclared agricultural products
  • For the same year, the agency scanned a total of 66,379 shipments of agricultural products

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) took in revenues of P29.24 million in 2021 from the seizure of shipments containing misdeclared agricultural products.

The seized shipments were part of the total scanned 66,379 boxes containing agricultural goods, 9,706 of which were later further verified by the BOC X-ray Inspection Project after yielding suspicious images.

The seized shipments were issued 50 warrants of seizure and detention and found to contain misdeclared and undeclared goods in violation of provisions of Department of Agriculture Administrative Order No. 18 series of 2000, which provides revised guidelines on the importation of agricultural products, and Republic Act No. 10863 (Customs Modernization and Tariff Act).

BOC said it “firmly denounces fraudulent importations of agricultural products, and consistently implements initiatives to intensify its border protection measures in all its ports nationwide to protect the country’s local farm producers and assure the safety of consumers.”

BOC last year filed several cases against importers involved in the unlawful importation of agricultural products valued at P293.9 million.
