The Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Ninoy Aquino International Airport destroyed 159,830 pieces of vape products valued at P34.11 million in Cavite on January 17 and 20.

The move is part of ongoing efforts to safeguard public health and enforce compliance with national regulations, the agency said in a statement.

The vape shipments were forfeited following the issuance of warrants of seizure and detention for violations of Republic Act (RA) No. 11900, as implemented by Department Administrative Order No. 22-16 (series of 2022) by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and Section 1113 (f) in relation to Section 117 of the RA No. 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

The condemnation process involved close coordination with the Auction and Cargo Disposal Division, Enforcement and Security Service, and Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service under the BOC.

The agency said the action aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s directive to prioritize public health and national security. “(The) BOC continues to play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of the Filipino people against illegal and harmful goods, which threaten both the welfare of the nation and its citizens.”

Customs commissioner Bienvenido Rubio reiterated the agency’s commitment, stating, “This condemnation underscores our commitment to protect public health and ensure compliance with our laws.”

BOC-NAIA district collector Yasmin Mapa highlighted the importance of collaboration among Customs units and other regulatory agencies in condemning non-compliant goods, ensuring BOC-NAIA’s “commitment to securing border protection and promoting the welfare of the people.
