BOC foils smuggling of cigarettes worth 160M
  • The Bureau of Customs-Port of Cagayan de Oro seized P160 million worth of smuggled cigarettes at Mindanao Container Terminal Port on Jan 18
  • The shipments arrived from China on December 16, 2022 and  were declared as “personal effects”
  • They were later found to contain 2,000 mastercases of “New Berlin” cigarettes
  • A warrant of seizure and detention will be issued against the consignees for misdeclaration

Bureau of Customs-Port of Cagayan de Oro officials on January 18 foiled an attempt to smuggle two containers of cigarettes worth P160 million at Mindanao Container Terminal Port on January 18.

The shipments that arrived on December 16, 2022 from China were declared as “personal effects”, according to BOC in a statement.

Following spot-check examination, they were found to contain “New Berlin” cigarettes in 2,000 master cases.

Port of Cagayan de Oro District Collector Alexandra Yap-Lumontad immediately issued a Pre-Lodgement Control Order against the shipment for possible violation of Section 1400 of the Republic Act 10863, also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

A Warrant of Seizure and Detention will be issued against the shipment’s consignees for misdeclaration.
