Bureau of Customs-Port of Cagayan de Oro officials on January 18 foiled an attempt to smuggle two containers of cigarettes worth P160 million at Mindanao Container Terminal Port on January 18.
The shipments that arrived on December 16, 2022 from China were declared as “personal effects”, according to BOC in a statement.
Following spot-check examination, they were found to contain “New Berlin” cigarettes in 2,000 master cases.
Port of Cagayan de Oro District Collector Alexandra Yap-Lumontad immediately issued a Pre-Lodgement Control Order against the shipment for possible violation of Section 1400 of the Republic Act 10863, also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
A Warrant of Seizure and Detention will be issued against the shipment’s consignees for misdeclaration.
