Bureau of Customs (BOC) deputy commissioner for Internal Administration Group (IAG) Michael Fermin has resigned from his post.

Fermin stepped down last week due to “personal security issues,” Office of the Commissioner deputy chief of staff confirmed to the Philippine News Agency.

BOC assistant commissioner Vincent Philip Maronilla confirmed Fermin’s resignation, saying the latter’s reasons “are personal to him.”

Fermin’s replacement has yet to be named.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. appointed Fermin as deputy commissioner in April 2025. As deputy commissioner for IAG, he was tasked with assisting the commissioner in the formulation of policies and setting up of objectives relative to the financial, administrative, personnel, planning and management concerns as well as the improvement of BOC services.

He was also chair of BOC’s Balikbayan and OFW Action Center, which aims to address the longtime complaints of overseas Filipino workers, including the delivery or abandonment of their balikbayan boxes.

Prior to being appointed as deputy commissioner, Fermin was also formerly a director of IAG and officer-in-charge deputy commissioner of both the IAG and Management Information System and Technology Group.
