A total of 1,090 master cases of smuggled cigarettes worth an estimated value of P38.1 million were seized by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) at the Manila International Container Port (MICP) on June 11.

Declared to contain packaging material from China and consigned to Green Nature Alliance Ventures, the shipment was issued a pre-lodgment control order based on intelligence information of BOC-MICP’s Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service.

The shipment was then subjected to 100% physical examination and revealed 1,090 master cases of cigarettes with brands such as Marvel, Mighty and Astro.

A warrant of seizure and detention was issued against the shipment for violation of Section 1400 (Misdeclaration) in relation to Section 1113 (Property Subject to Seizure and Forfeiture) of Republic Act 10863 (Customs Modernization and Tariff Act), and National Tobacco Authority law and regulations.
