The Bureau of Customs-Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC-NAIA) intercepted P8.8 million worth of illegal drugs concealed in unclaimed parcels at a warehouse facility in Pasay City on September 25.

The three parcels, misdeclared as electronic equipment and garments, were flagged during x-ray screening and later confirmed by K-9 sweeping. A physical inspection uncovered 992 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu, along with 1,396 grams of high-grade marijuana, known locally as kush.

The confiscated substances were secured and placed under BOC-NAIA custody at the Collector’s Corral pending confirmatory testing and investigation.

“The Bureau of Customs is determined to uncover and stop every attempt by drug traffickers to sneak illegal substances into our country. We remain steadfast in protecting our borders and shielding our communities from the harms of illegal drugs,” Customs commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno said in a statement.

The case constitutes violations of Republic Act (RA) No. 10863, or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, including Section 1400 (Misdeclaration), Section 1401 (Unlawful Importation and Exportation), and Section 117 (Regulated Importation and Exportation), in relation to Section 1113 (f). It also falls under RA 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, as amended.
