The Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Port of Iloilo recently received an upgraded mobile X-ray machine.
The new unit from China-based Nuctech Co. Ltd. can perform both manual and pass-through scanning. It also features advanced organic and inorganic imaging, as well as a radiation monitoring system, BOC-Iloilo said in a statement.
With the addition, the port now has two mobile X-ray machines located at the Visayas Container Terminal.
BOC-Iloilo said the x-ray machines enhance its ability to detect and prevent smuggling of prohibited and contraband goods, ensuring faster and more accurate cargo inspections.
As part of the priority programs of the bureau, BOC-Iloilo district collector Ciriaco Ugay in a statement said they will continuously strive “to modernize its facilities to secure the borders of Western Visayas, facilitate legitimate trade, and collect lawful revenues.”
BOC’s five priority programs for 2025 include digitalization, trade facilitation, curbing smuggling, surpassing revenue targets, and enhancing employee welfare and conduct.
