The Bureau of Customs (BOC) and Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio were cited at the Gawad Pilipino Awards 2024 on November 19.

Rubio was conferred the “Outstanding Public Servant Award” for “his exemplary leadership and transformative initiatives” that have significantly improved customs operations.

Under his leadership, the BOC has made “progress in combating smuggling, enhancing trade facilitation, and boosting revenue collection.”

The bureau also received the “Tapat sa Paglilingkod Award,” acknowledging its “commitment to public service excellence.” The award also recognized the agency’s implementation of innovative programs aimed at fostering public trust and transparency in its operations.

In his acceptance speech, Rubio expressed gratitude to the BOC workforce, attributing the recognition to their dedication and hard work. “Our workforce is the backbone of the august institution I proudly represent, and I humbly accept these awards on behalf of the men and women of the Bureau of Customs. These awards are the reflection of their diligence, and a testament to the leadership I strive to provide as the Commissioner of Customs,” he said.

BOC said in a statement that the accolades mark a significant milestone in the bureau’s ongoing efforts to transform into a world-class customs administration. The agency remains focused on its mandate to secure the country’s borders, facilitate legitimate trade, and uphold integrity and transparency in its operations.

Established in 2015, the Gawad Pilipino Awards recognizes Filipino individuals and organizations whose work and dedication have made significant contributions to Philippine culture, tradition, and society, according to its website.
