The Bureau of Customs (BOC) seized a record-breaking P85.167 billion worth of smuggled goods in 2024, Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio said during the 38th founding anniversary of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) on January 27.

While Rubio hailed the milestone as an “unprecedented anti-smuggling achievement” in the BOC’s anti-smuggling efforts, he underscored the need for continuous vigilance, citing the evolving tactics of criminal organizations engaged in illicit trade.

“Recognizing that the challenges we face are evolving, we must reinforce our anti-smuggling drive, bearing in mind that safeguarding our society is paramount,” Rubio said in a statement.

The CIIS anniversary was marked by a ceremonial donation to the GMA Kapuso Foundation. The P500,000 donation will be used to build schools and bridges in calamity-stricken areas, especially in Camarines Sur.

“This generous contribution was made even more meaningful by the selfless gesture of IG personnel, who voluntarily pooled a portion of their Christmas bonuses to support the cause,” Rubio said.

The turnover was led by Rubio, Intelligence Group Deputy Commissioner Juvymax Uy, and CIIS Director Verne Enciso.

A highlight of the program was the recognition of top-performing offices under the intelligence group.

CIIS-Manila International Container Port was ranked Overall Best Field Station Office after achieving P60.5 billion worth of seized contraband and anti-social goods in 2024.

Director Enciso also received special commendation for the outstanding contribution of IG personnel and agents who exemplify the agency’s core values.
