The Bureau of Customs (BOC) collected ₱79.225 billion in duties and taxes for September 2023, surpassing its ₱76.445 billion target by 3.64%.

The latest figure was, however, down by 0.3% from the ₱79.5 billion reported in September 2022.

From January to September 2023, BOC took in ₱660.716 billion, exceeding its ₱644.185 billion goal by 2.57%, the agency said in a statement. The nine-month result was also 3.4% higher than the ₱638.7 billion posted in the same period last year.

BOC said its improved collection performance was due to “effective customs operations, increased trade activity, and rigorous revenue collection efforts” that were put in place.

It also noted partnerships and collaborations it had entered into with the Department of Trade and industry, the Strategic Trade Management Office, and ARISE Plus Philippines to promote facilitation of customs procedures and improve trade competitiveness.

In a related development, BOC for the first nine months of the year conducted 730 anti-smuggling operations that resulted in the seizure of smuggled goods worth an estimated ₱35.963 billion.
