Borongan City is seeking to renew a flight agreement with Philippine Airlines (PAL) for the Manila-Cebu-Borongan route.

Borongan City Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda said he is in consultation with councilors to propose a new agreement before the current one expires in December.

Agda and PAL president and chief operating officer Capt. Stanley Ng on November 30, 2022 signed a memorandum of agreement for the Manila-Cebu-Borongan flights every Monday and Friday.

PAL launched its inaugural flight to Borongan City Airport on December 19, 2022.

“The MOA will be on the same scheme as the previous because we have already seen the impact of the flights, and we want to sustain it,” Agda said on October 16.

Additionally, Borongan intends to request PAL to increase flight frequency from twice to thrice a week, as the city experienced high passenger traffic in September during the local fiesta.

PAL is the first commercial airline to launch a regular flight to Borongan City after the local airport’s completion in March 2013.

Agda expressed gratitude to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) for recognizing Borongan City Airport as a “model” for modular construction systems in terminal facilities, which prioritize sustainability and reduce construction waste.

CAAP, in a statement, indicated the same construction approach, using prefabricated structural steels, would be applied to enhance Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental.
