The Commission on Appointments (CA) confirmed the appointment of Vivencio (Vince) Dizon as secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

The approval during the plenary session on June 4 followed the CA Committee on Transportation’s recommendation during a June 3 confirmation hearing to approve Dizon’s appointment.

In a statement, Dizon vowed to speed up big-ticket transport projects to ease the daily plight of commuters and help them save time. He also reiterated President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s order to improve the lives of Filipinos by addressing issues faced by the transport sector.

“I was asked by the President to make the lives of our commuters more comfortable, safe and to fast-track the ongoing projects that will uplift the lives of our commuters on a daily basis,” Dizon said in a speech addressing members of the CA.

(There are two instructions from the President: we have to make travel comfortable as well as safe because what the public goes through is no joke. The most difficult issue though is the time lost due to deficient infrastructure.)

Marcos on May 22 asked all Cabinet secretaries to tender their courtesy resignation to give the administration room for a “bold reset”. Dizon’s resignation was rejected on June 3 along with many other Cabinet secretaries.

Dizon was appointed DOTr secretary effective February 21, 2025, replacing Jaime Bautista who resigned due to health reasons.

Previously, Dizon served as president and chief executive officer of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority from 2016 to 2021. He also served as the presidential adviser on the flagship program and projects during the term of former president Rodrigo Duterte. He also served as the deputy chief implementer of the National Action Plan Against COVID-19, chief testing czar, and chief coordinator of the Test, Trace, Treat Program, also during the previous administration.
